For nearly two decades, Elvida has shared Guatemalan recipes while building a loyal community of customers in Los Angeles.
When I met Elvida, she invited me behind her food truck, where we spent several minutes talking about her journey and the business she has built over the past 18 years.
Originally from Guatemala, Elvida serves traditional Guatemalan dishes, including fried chicken and beef, from Taquería La Marquensith. Before entering street vending, she spent six years working as a seamstress, a job that helped support her family before she eventually made the transition to food.
Today, she works three to four days each week, serving around 50 customers a day without relying on social media or advertising. Most of her business has always come through word of mouth and returning customers.
Like many vendors, Elvida says the biggest challenges are the rising costs of operating the business and navigating government regulations. While those expenses have continued to grow, she has remained committed to serving the community that has supported her for nearly two decades.
As we finished talking behind her truck, it was clear that Taquería La Marquensith is more than just a place to grab a meal. It's the result of years of hard work, perseverance, and a dedication to sharing the flavors of Guatemala with Los Angeles.
