Meeting People, One Taco at a Time

Every evening, Cristina Perez helps operate Tacos Tamix, a taco stand serving customers near Imperial Highway and La Cienega.

The business runs seven days a week, often staying open until two in the morning. Those long hours require preparation, consistency, and a willingness to work when most people are heading home for the night.

Among the menu's most popular items are tacos al pastor, a customer favorite that continues to bring both new and returning visitors to the stand.

When I asked Cristina what she enjoys most about the work, she didn't mention the food first. Instead, she talked about the people. Meeting customers from different backgrounds and building relationships within the community is what makes the job rewarding.

Like many street vendors, Cristina spends long nights serving customers, helping keep a business running that has become a familiar presence in the area.

Sometimes, the most important part of a food stand isn't just what's on the menu—it's the connections formed across the counter.

Serving customers seven nights a week, Cristina Perez says the people she meets are the best part of the job.
