Turning Necessity Into Opportunity
Not every street vending story begins with a lifelong dream. Sometimes, it begins with necessity.
When I spoke with the vendor behind the Churros y Plátanos Fritos stand, he explained that he started the business after struggling to find work. Rather than wait for an opportunity, he decided to create one himself.
Today, he operates from a single location, serving customers who often discover the stand simply by walking past. Churros are the most popular item, attracting both curious newcomers and returning customers.
When asked what he enjoys most about the work, his answer was simple: working. The opportunity to support himself through his own efforts is what motivates him to continue.
Like many vendors, however, business can be unpredictable. Some days bring steady sales, while others are much slower. Those ups and downs are part of the reality of operating a small business.
Originally connected to traditions from Oaxaca and Honduras, the stand reflects food and flavors that continue to resonate with customers throughout the community.
