Balancing College and Community
When I met Angelie, I expected to hear about tacos. Instead, we ended up talking about college, career goals, and life beyond the stand.
Angelie has worked at El Capitalino for the past two years while pursuing her education at UC Davis, where she is currently a sophomore. She spoke positively about her experience at the university, especially the natural surroundings and campus environment.
Like many college students, balancing academics and work is not always easy. Angelie explained that winter quarter can be particularly challenging, especially courses such as neurobiology and kinesiology.
Looking ahead, she hopes to build a career in health and fitness. While she once considered becoming a sports medicine physician, she is now interested in becoming a personal trainer and helping people improve their health and well-being.
At El Capitalino, Angelie is part of a business that has served the community since 2021. Over the past two years, she has helped serve customers while also working toward her own goals outside of the business.
Her story is a reminder that many of the people working behind street vending businesses are balancing responsibilities, ambitions, and careers that extend far beyond the stand itself.
A UC Davis sophomore, Angelie splits her time between classes, career goals, and helping at El Capitalino.
